Speculation Grows Over Next BCCI President Following Roger Binny's Departure

Send Push
Transition in BCCI Leadership

Roger Binny recently stepped down from his role as the president of the BCCI after completing his term. Currently, Rajeev Shukla is serving as the acting president. This change has sparked discussions about who will be the next leader of the BCCI. Following the Supreme Court's ruling on the Lodha Committee recommendations, former captain Sourav Ganguly was appointed as president, with Jay Shah taking on the vice-presidency. After Ganguly's exit, Binny took over the position, but now there are indications that a prominent cricketer is leading the race for the presidency.

Reasons Behind Binny's Resignation

Binny's resignation was primarily due to his age, as he has turned 70. According to regulations, he was required to vacate his position. The BCCI's annual general meeting is scheduled for the last week of September, where elections will be held not only for the president but also for the vice-president, joint secretary, secretary, IPL chairman, and treasurer.

Potential Candidates for the Presidency

A Prominent Cricketer May Take Charge

According to reports, the BCCI may appoint a cricketer known for breaking and setting records as its next president. A senior official has reportedly had discussions with this player in England, although it remains unclear whether the player has accepted or declined the offer. The identity of this cricketer has not yet been disclosed. A senior official mentioned that key stakeholders believe it would be beneficial to elect a distinguished cricketer as president.

Election Process Uncertainty

Sources indicate that there is a possibility that the BCCI elections may not occur this time. Instead, appointments to all positions may be made through mutual agreement, similar to the previous two elections. Decisions will likely be made by influential figures regarding the appointments. Reports suggest that Secretary Devjeet Saikia may continue in his role.
